COMMUNION WITH GOD THROUGH PRAYER

The Christian’s most powerful resource is communion with God through prayer. The results are often greater than we thought were possible. Some people see prayer as a last resort to be tried when all else fails. The approach is backward. Prayer should come first because God’s power is infinitely greater than ours, it only makes sense to rely on it especially because God encourages us to do so.

The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

"There is not one sparrow that falls that God doesn't know about," a person would offer as a comfort. "Yes," a friend may counter back, "but the sparrow still falls."

How many times have we lost comfort in the fact that God sees and knows, and yet doesn't seem to do anything about our circumstance? We still get lost, bleed, cry, die... what does it really matter that God saw it all if He didn't do anything about it? We are prompted by Jesus' very words to watch the lilies as they grow in splendor and know that He very hand coaxed them out of the ground. How much more can He make something beautiful of our lives? Yet, there is still so much ugliness, so much pain - where can we find the peace and understanding that everything is going wrong?

I don't have an answer. It's a prayer we grapple with daily. We continue to "commune" with God daily as a way, the only way we may find toward the light to understand and embrace the mystery. There are bumps and knots. Like a tapestry, on the back side of it, there are knots, bumps and crisscrossing yarns that makes no sense at all. It's all one chaotic mess! But when you turn it over and look at how the colors and threads come together in one beautiful picture, you start to understand the back!

So with all the bumps and knots and dangling threads that life seems to create - I can believe that it all has a reason. We walk by faith and not by sight, we have to continue on in the journey with the simple trust in God. Ultimately, His ways are not our ways, but miraculously, He sometimes allows us a passing glance at what might be... and what we might become.

So His eye is always on the sparrow, no matter where it may fly or fall! Continue to commune with God, regardless!
