Teach Me

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good
Spirit lead me on level ground.
Psalm 143:10

We want the Spirit to be at work in us to make us like Jesus.
For this to happen, we must open our hearts to the will of God.
There are no greater words God wants to hear than "teach me to do
your will." That is what it means for him to be God, to have
control over our lives and our wills.

David's prayer was to be taught to do God's will, not his own. A prayer
for guidance is self-centered if it does not recognize God's power
to redirect our lives. Asking God to restructure priorities awakens
our minds and stirs our wills.

Theme: A prayer in midst of hopelessness and depression. Our prayer
should fit into what we know is consistent with God's character and
plans.

Man! How difficult is this for most people, especially those who are "Christians"!??

In my previous blog, http://marklowenstein.blogspot.com titled "Blessings On Our Terms", I explained how Christians have risen to the "call of God" but have yet to "confirm" the calling they have received! They have not "confirmed" through their supposedly changing lifestyle to be more and more like Christ surrendering to His Word and Will!

I am sure many Christians have surrendered to His call but held on to their old way of life and thinking and traditions and patterns. They haven't let them go to allow the blueprint of God to drape around their lives! Instead, they have left the old blueprint on and allowed God's blueprint to mingle around the old. It reminds me of Jesus' teaching about "wineskins" in Matthew 9: people keep the old wineskins (old beliefs/teachings/doctrine) and accepted the new wine (new belief/teachings/doctrine). What happened? The old wineskin burst open because the new cannot work with the old. I believe Jesus is very clear in His teachings to the people during His time. In the same way, someone may be holding on to their old traditions or teachings that may appear to be "hollow and deceptive" then accepting the new teaching/beliefs that they hold true. If Christ were here today, He would tell them (as He did with the Pharisees), let go the old belief and accept My new teachings I give you!

How true is this today! And I pray that we will all come together as one in Christ agreeing on what Jesus had taught and continues to teaching us through His Word (Bible)!
